Connecting a Card Reader (iOS)

The card reader and your phone are wirelessly connected using a Bluetooth connection.

Your card reader comes with a wall charger and a USB cable. Before the card reader’s first use you should charge it for 8 hours to properly condition the batteries.

 

To turn your card reader on, press and hold the red power button on the side of the device.

 

 

The screen should display the Dream Payments logo while the device is powering up. Once fully powered up the screen will display a welcome screen.

 

  1. Make the card reader discoverable

To connect your phone to the card reader, it needs to be made visible to your Apple device. Once the card reader is visible, your phone will be able to connect to it wirelessly (using a Bluetooth connection).

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is the name given to a technology that lets your phone talk to other nearby devices. The process to connect a Bluetooth device with your phone is called “Pairing”. Once a Bluetooth device is connected to your phone we describe it as being “Paired”.

Make sure your card reader is turned on and the welcome screen is visible (if the card reader is on but the welcome screen is not visible, press and release the power button once to wake it).

You will need to access the Settings menu.

To display the Settings menu, press the F button on the card reader’s keypad quickly followed by the # button.

 

 

Using the Settings menu, select 1 “Bluetooth Pairing”. The screen will prompt you to “Pair your device” and display a PIN (The PIN will need to be entered to complete the connection). The card reader will remain in pairing mode for 3 minutes before automatically exiting; you can only pair the card reader while in this mode

 

  1. Connect using your phone

You need to access the iOS Settings menu to scan for the card reader. Make sure your phone is close to the card reader and open the Settings menu on your phone. Turn Bluetooth on and scan for Bluetooth devices within range.

Look at the list of Bluetooth devices that you have detected and identify your card reader’s name (Your card reader’s name can be found top left of the card reader’s screen).

Select your card reader from the list and you will be asked to enter a PIN to confirm the connection. The PIN you require is displayed on the card reader’s screen.

Please note this is not the same PIN as used for your account. This PIN only relates to the card reader connection process

Enter the PIN into your phone and the connection should be complete. The card reader should report that the connection was successful. If you were not able to connect your device, make sure that the card reader is in pairing mode (reactivate from the Settings menu if necessary) and scan again.

 
  1. Link the card reader to your account

Once we have a successful Bluetooth connection, the card reader can be linked to your account so you can start taking payments. Launch the app on your phone and the new card reader should be detected.

Confirm that you’d like to associate the card reader with your account (this will permanently associate the card reader with your account).

The app will add the card reader to your account and will notify you that it is available to take payments.
